Eggs are an important food of Low Carb or Paleo living. Eggs are nutritious and high in protein. They’re a quick snack idea and I recommend that you always have at least a half a dozen (6) hard boiled eggs on hand at any given time for quick grabbing…You know those moments when you come through the door famished and want to shove the first thing you see in your mouth…Come On! We’ve ALL had those moments…and those moments are crucial because its when most people blow their eating plan. Being prepared is key! Here’s a resource for you.
Hard boiled eggs can be tricky to make. Have you ever had an overcooked yolk with an unappetizing green ring around it? What about whites so tough it’s like chewing on rubber bands? How about when you try to peel the shell off the egg and half the egg white come off with the shell attached? Dang it! Or, when a little egg white escapes from the shell and cooks into something resembling the 1950′s horror flick, “The Blob“? YUK!!!
If these egg disasters are causing you stress, have no fear! I’ve got the answer right here — a secret ingredient your grandma probably used… and will work like a charm every time!
How to Boil the Perfect Egg
- Place the eggs in a large saucepan. Add cold water to cover 1″ over the top of the eggs. Add a splash of white vinegar (yes, that’s the secret ingredient!)
- Bring the water to boil over medium heat then turn off the heat and let the eggs sit for 13 minutes, exactly! Set a timer.
- After 13 minutes, fill the saucepan with cold water to stop cooking. TIP:You can add a few ice cubes to hasten the cooling process.
- Peel away!
What’s with the vinegar you ask? Vinegar’s magical interaction with eggs is the acidity it creates. Vinegar doesn’t alter the taste of eggs whatsoever, it simply helps to give you perfectly boiled eggs!
