This is one of the most common questions women ask me when they’re contemplating becoming a Sugar Free Goddess: “Lisa, can I drink alcohol – beer, wine, champagne, spirits etc – while living a sugar free lifestyle?”
The answer is YES! Most cocktails and alcoholic beverages are full of sugar, however by using the following guidelines you can absolutely enjoy alcohol as part of your Sugar Free Goddess lifestyle!
- Wine, Wine Coolers, Champagne or Sparkling Wines: No sangria, sweet white or pink wine. Red wine tends to be lower in sugar than white wine, and dry red wines are your best choice.
- White And Brown Spirits: Gin, vodka, rum, whiskey, etc. contain no carbs and are fine when you enjoy them neat or on ice, cut with soda water, diet tonic waters, diet soda, flavored seltzers or sugar free mixers. Regular mixes and fruit juices are loaded with sugar and should not to be used.
- Beer: Drink light beer and only on occasion. It’s much lower in carbs than regular beer.
- Dessert Wine, Port And Creamy Or Sweet Liquors: Are sugar-bombs – say no.
While removing sugar from your daily diet during the Sugar Free Goddess 14-Day Sugar Detox, you’re body temple will be detoxing from sugar and releasing toxins, so you must not drink alcohol until after your 14-Day Sugar Detox is completed.
Ultimately optimal health and weight is achieved by eating and drinking sugar free. Of course you can have the occasional glass of Port or Chocolate Martini … it’s what you do most of the time that makes the biggest impact. Sugar Free Goddess is not about living with a bunch of “never’s” – I’ll never eat bread again, I’ll never eat dessert again, etc. It’s about conscious choices. If I’m craving a yummy sounding cocktail, I take a moment to check in and determine if it’s really worth ingesting the sugar.
Most women can enjoy 1-2 glasses of dry wine without gaining weight or stalling their weight loss. However, every one is different, so please see how your body temple reacts to drinking alcohol.
