Do you brush your skin?
I know it sounds crazy… but daily brushing of your skin before bathing or showering is an important addition to a healthy lifestyle and grooming routine for both women and men!
A few years ago while I was on vacation, a Massage Therapist let me in on the myriad of health benefits that were associated with skin brushing. I was completely intrigued… so when I came home I did some research and this is what I discovered…
Skin Brushing Health Benefits:
- Wakes up the body leaving you tingly all over (Healthy Sensations!)
- Removes dead layers of skin leaving you with a beautiful and natural glow
- Helps to unclog pores
- Improves blood circulation
- Improves lymphatic circulation and drainage
- Stimulates your nerve endings (GOOD MORNING- it really wakes you up!)
- Helps to decrease cellulite (Thank You!)
- Helps to strengthen the immune system
- Increases the release of toxins
- Encourages new cell growth
I use an all-natural soft boar’s bristle brush (a vegetable fiber brush works nicely too) that I purchased from a local health food store. You can find a good skin brush at most drugstores or online at www.amazon.com. Be sure that the brush you choose has a long handle so that you can reach all around your body with ease.
TIP: Try the brush out in the store before purchase on the top of your hand…when you rub the brush on your skin, it should feel like a lovely skin massage and not like “road rash” in the making… use only brushes with S-O-F-T bristles.
How To Brush Your Skin
Start with your toes and feet, on dry skin before bathing or showering. Massage your skin in small circular motions. Move in an upward direction towards your heart, little circles. The circles should be about 5-8 inches in diameter. Once toes, feet and legs are done and you are at your heart stop and begin with one hand and work in a circular motion moving up your arm from your hand towards your armpit and to your shoulder. Do the same on the other arm. Next brush your stomach, chest, back and neck. The massage should feel pleasurable and not painful in the least.
Shower or bathe as usual. Be sure to wash your skin brush every two weeks or so in warm soapy water and let dry in a sunny location.
HOT HEALTH TIP: After dry brushing, drink a cup of hot water with a squeeze of lemon to help jumpstart your digestive system!
